Financial Overview

The South Butler County School District once again proved to be one of the more economically responsible districts in Butler County.  The school district has a very reasonable tax base in comparison to those communities surrounding the Butler and Allegheny County areas and provides a high quality education, while making efficient use of it’s resources to provide such service.  Through careful planning and fiscal responsibility, students receive technologically advanced instruction, all on a unified campus setting.

What the budget means to taxpayers

In Butler County, assessed values normally run between 8-11% of a home’s market value.  The tax rate for 2011-2012 is 91.275 mills.

Cost Reduction Strategies

The school district has made careful decisions over the past several years that have helped to reduce overall costs based on those decisions. Some areas where cost reduction strategies have been put in place include a guaranteed energy savings program, campus consolidation, workforce reductions and bond issue refinancing to reduce interest costs. Administrators continually work to streamline operations and look for ways to implement further cost reductions.

The Annual Budget

The total operating budget for the 2011-12 school year was approved by the School Board on June 8, 2011 after many months of planning by the School Board, administration and staff.  The  budget amount approved for the 2011-12 school year was $32,634,165.  For more information on the budget and finances of the South Butler County School District, contact Director of Business Affairs Debbie Brandstetter at (724) 352-1700, ext. 1608 or email brandstetterd@southbutler.net.
