Congratulations KIES Writers!

The Gifted Support students in grades 3-4 entered the third annual WPCTE Flash Fiction Writing Contest. There were 246 entries this year from western Pennsylvania schools.

"WPCTE partnered with NCTE-IUP (the NCTE student affiliate at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania) and the Saint Vincent College English Pre-Service Teachers to determine the winners. This partnership enables pre-service English teachers to read and evaluate authentic student writing. The judges were only knowledgeable about the grade band and the writing; they did not know any information about schools, teachers, or students. They reported that there were so many amazing entries that it was hard to choose the winners! Each grade band has one Grand Prize winner and then as many Honorable Mentions as the judges felt merited that award.

A Virtual Awards Ceremony will take place on Google Meet on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 7:00 pm. WPCTE will award virtual certificates to all winners and invite Grand Prize winners to read their entire story and Honorable Mention winners to read an excerpt or provide a summary of their writing"

The Grand Prize winner in the grade 4-6 category was Calogero Sartori, and honorable Mentions went to Nora Griffith and Lucy Manzer.  All three students attend Knoch Intermediate Elementary School.
